We are here to serve the needs of all the youth in Allegan County, and to form a team of volunteers to use whatever means necessary to deliver relative programs that lead to youth development and individual growth.
Description:
Allegan County 4-H has many opportunities: Club, County, State, Regional, National and International. 4-H Clubs are guided by volunteers that enjoy working with adults and young people in educational and fun activities. 4-H volunteers use projects to teach basic life skills such as working with others, responsibility and public speaking. There are four types of 4-H Leaders - Administrative Leaders, Project Leaders, Resource Leaders, and Teen Leaders. Each has a different set of responsibilities to the success of the group. Project areas offered in Allegan County are Livestock, Horse, crafts, arts, photography, cooking, and the list goes on and on... 4-H school activities include The China Art Project, Snacking Healthy, Tobacco Awareness, and more. 4-H Camp Kidwell offers day and weeklong camps during the summer, a ropes course and Halloween activities for ALL youth throughout southwest Michigan and beyond. The Allegan County Exceptional Equestrians, a 4-H therapeutic riding program holds horseback riding sessions for special needs youth using the facilities at 4-H Camp Kidwell. History:
The term "4-H" was first used in a federal publication written in 1918. However, it was not until 1924 that Boys and Girls Club work officially became known as 4-H. There are 4-H programs in every County in the State of Michigan. Allegan County 4-H has owned its own camp since 1949. Formally known as Lily Point Resort 4-H Camp Kidwell is located on beautiful Eagle Lake in southern Allegan County.
