Lead girls in the pursuit to develop their abilities as individuals and group participants through the Girl Scout program. Troop leaders are role models for their girls and meet with them 2 to 4 times a month. Troop leaders help arrange meetings, organize parents and volunteers, coordinate troop activities, and attend a Service Unit Meeting with other area troop leaders once a month. Troop leaders can be mothers, family members, teachers, members of the community, or any one else who authentically cares about girls. Listen to this story from Marisol Cruz: "Everybody needs a mentor. Young girls are impressionable, and I think the fact that they can have somebody positive to look up to makes a difference-regardless of how big or small it is. I've grown within myself. My girls.. they tell me: 'We love you Marisol. You're a great leaders.' And I get emotional when I think about it, there's no boundaries. We do it for the children, but the children are the ones that keep us there. Just seeing the girls smile is what does it for me."
Troop leaders must complete a volunteer application packet, which includes references and a background check. New volunteers need to then attend an orientation and leader essentials training. Other development courses are then available, including first aide/CPR and camping. Troop leaders need to also register with GSUSA. This opportunity is sponsored by: Girl Scouts Heart Of Michigan
