
AARP TaxAide is a volunteer organization that provides free tax assistance and preparation services for low and moderate income and elderly citizens.
Description:
The AARP TaxAide program trains volunteers to electronically complete and file federal and state income tax forms. All ages and backgrounds are welcome; the ability to use a computer is reguired. Counselors receive free tax training and become IRS certified by passing the IRS examination. Training will take place both in Dec. and Jan.
Daytime, evening and Saturday volunteer shifts are available. Services are provided at 11 different sites in Northern Virginia. To volunteer, contact Dottie Dake at 703-534-7359.
History:
AARP Tax-aide of Northern VA has been providing tax assistance and preparation for over 20 years.
In 2009, the trained tax counselors completed nearly 9000 returns.
