Arlingtonians Meeting Emergency Needs, Inc. (AMEN) helps individuals and families during a financial emergency by offering assistance, which often prevents homelessness. AMEN is not-for-profit organization without religious affiliation that provides same-day emergency financial assistance to residents of Arlington County, Virginia, who encounter unexpected financial emergencies. AMEN issues checks to the appropriate creditor, following established guidelines.

Description:
AMEN programs cover five basic areas:

(1) The Daily Program provides same-day, one-time emergency assistance to Arlington residents who find themselves in a financial crisis. The program will pay for rent, medical and dental bills, prescriptions, transportation and some work-related expenses.

(2) The Section 8 Security Deposit Loan Program provides a much-needed service to families seeking to move into federal “Section 8” rental units. These loans are for the amount of the security deposit, freeing the renter to pay the first month’s rent.

(3) Dress for Work Success provides brand new, professional work attire for clients who have completed the Arlington County Employment Center's “Arlington Works!” program, helping recipients to make a smooth transition from welfare to self-sufficiency.

(4) AMEN administers the "EnergyShare" program, funded by the Dominion Virginia Power company, to help households pay home heating and cooling bills for those in need.

(5) The Carter-Jenkinson Memorial Homelessness Prevention Fund provides rental and related assistance for those whose needs are greater than the Daily Fund can accommodate.

History:
AMEN, Inc. was founded in 1975 by the Ministerial Association of Arlington, Church Women United and other concerned Arlington residents. AMEN has been providing emergency financial assistance to the community for 35 years without regard for a client's religious affiliation.
