NVFS' vision is to be recognized as the preeminent source of human services for individuals and families in need.
Description:
Northern Virginia Family Services has taken responsibility of the services provided by the formerly known Center for Multicultural Human Services (CMHS) as of April 1st, 2008. The now called Multicultural Human Services Program of Northern Virginia Family service, maintains the services that have been offered to immigrants and refugees during 25 years. Current programs within MHS of NVFS include: Psychological assessments and therapy Cultural orientation and life skills groups Psychiatric evaluation and medication Citizenship services Program for survivors of torture and severe trauma Multilingual information and referral Child abuse prevention and treatment Cross-cultural training Domestic violence programs Crisis intervention Interpreting and translation Intensive home-based services
History:
Established in 1924, Northern Virginia Family Service is a private, non-profit community service resource dedicated to helping individuals and families find new paths to self-reliance and brighter futures. Each year, NVFS helps more than 22,000 people find affordable housing, counseling and child care; access low-cost medical and dental services; utilize foster and respite care; participate in job training; benefit from trauma recovery; and more.
