Volunteers of America is a faith-based not-for-profit that addresses the needs of our communities resulting in positive life changes for those we serve. We strive to be the premier provider of an array of human services that encourage self-reliance, dignity, and hope.

Description:
The Residential Program Center homeless shelter collaborates with Arlington County officials and numerous organizations in Northern Virginia to ensure that effective and appropriate services are available. The Residential Program Center offers a safe place where people in crisis can address their problems and take the steps necessary to regain their independence. Residential Program Center is the only year-round homeless shelter for men and women in Arlington that offers detoxification and substance abuse recovery under one roof.

History:
The Residential Program Center homeless shelter has been operated by Volunteers of America Chesapeake since 1994 when substance abuse facilities were added. The Residential Program Center is one of the largest and most comprehensive providers of homeless services in Northern Virginia. More than 1100 men and women come to the Residential Program Center each year in search of a new start. Our mission is to provide safe housing and support services for single men and women. We honor the individual dignity of all those we serve. We advocate and work toward the empowerment of our clients in all areas of their lives.
