CRIBS: Caring Relationships Involving Book Sharing
The mission of CRIBS Book Sharing Program is to get this message out to parents "Start Reading Now!" The more children read and are read to, the more likely they are to be successful and lifelong readers. Since our founding in 2002, CRIBS has been working to build upon the collective power of communities to help meet the literacy needs of young children. As we work toward fulfilling our mission, we support and leverage the efforts of many volunteers.
Description:
CRIBS (Caring Relationships Involving Book Sharing) promotes the literacy development of young children through high quality, research based, developmentally appropriate early literacy activities and experiences that facilitate family involvement and community support forging partnerships for learning. CRIBS forges collaborations with schools, homeless shelters, Head Start programs and apartment community center sites where young children and their families can experience the joy that reading brings to everyone. One component of CRIBS is our early literacy program designed for young children and their families. It offers children and their families engaging literacy activities/experiences that convey the importance of family bonding and involvement. Literature and phonics are the core of our reading program for older students. An emphasis on developing a love of reading to ensure success permeates CRIBS’ curriculum. Reading instruction is presented through an active hands-on approach that provides students with a sequential learning process. It incorporates children’s interests and their ability to apply what they are learning to meaningful life experiences. We Specialize In ....
