Volunteers are needed in the Northern Virginia region (including Arlington) to help prepare tax returns for low-income people to help them receive refunds and credits they may be due. Volunteers serve at sites that are equipped with computers connected to the Internet throughout the region.
Volunteers are needed from late January 2009 through April 2009. Training will begin in December 2008. Sites are generally open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sites may have different hours and days of operations to fit different schedules.

If you have completed your own taxes in the past this opportunity may be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Prior experience preparing taxes online is helpful but not required. Volunteers wanting to assist with tax preparation must be able to complete the IRS.gov tutorial and certification test at "Link and Learn" - for wage earners and basic taxes only. There will be additional classroom training offered to tax preparation volunteers.
