United Way of the National Capital Area (UWNCA) has an exciting opportunity to be a part of the Emmy-winning television show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. As you may know, the show brings together the entire community to transform the lives of a deserving family or community group by building a new house or facility in just 7 days. UWNCA is recruiting, managing and supporting all of the "General Volunteers" working to complete this monumental task. The build runs 24 hours a day for 7 days and will require more than 2,000 general volunteers. "General volunteers" will assist the "skills and trades volunteers" building the house by serving meals, stocking the convenience tent (snacks and beverages), working the check-in booth, removing trash and recycling, checking credentials, delivering box lunches to volunteers and crew working on/in the house, and interacting with the spectators. General Volunteers will be scheduled in 6 ½ hour shifts, day and night throughout the last week in August. All volunteers will receive a limited-edition Extreme Makeover: Home Edition t-shirt and access to the build site, but more importantly, they will be part of a massive mobilization to help transform a neighborhood and bring joy to a deserving family or community group. If you would be interested in volunteering, please respond directly to Margie Robinson, Community Impact Program Manager for UWNCA at (202) 488-2053 or mrobinson@uwnca.org no later than Tuesday, August 18th. Please feel free to invite family, friends, and co-workers to join you (volunteers must be 18 or older). People who are not listed by name on our volunteer check-in list will not be admitted to the work site. In addition, please note your team's preferred shifts. Volunteers are needed 24 hours a day from August 22nd-29th and the shifts are as follows: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. 3 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. 9 p.m. – 3:30 a.m. 3 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
They won't release the exact location of the Makeover until just before the program begins, so it could be anywhere in the metropolitan DC area. |
