Volunteers are needed to help prepare tax returns for seniors and low-income families and to make sure they receive any tax credits or refunds for which they are eligible. The federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), for example, can result in substantial tax refunds for working families. EITC is the largest federal antipoverty program for working families and individuals in the United States, and results in significant refunds for those able to apply for these credits on their tax refunds.

Free tax clinics will be held at many locations in Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia -- including the Arlington County Department of Human Services in Clarendon.  Most clinics open in early February 2008 and run through mid-April.  Trainings for volunteer tax preparers usually take place in January.

Volunteers play a crucial role in providing free tax preparation services. You don't need to be an accountant to help -- free training will be provided.
