C.A.S.A. Of San Bernardino County

C.A.S.A. of San Bernardino County's mission is to improve the quality of life for children and youth in foster care and prepare them for adulthood by providing advocacy in juvenile court through trained volunteers

Description:
C.A.S.A. volunteers provide stability and hope to abused and neglected children and youth by adding a powerful voice in their lives. Our agency continually strives to recruit, screen and train volunteers to become appointed advocates for these children who were placed in foster care throughout San Bernardino County. Our goal is to help these children find a safe, stable and permanent placement, as well as ensure that all of their needs are met. As a Court Appointed Special Advocate (C.A.S.A.) you will be trained to work with a child on a one-on-one basis, to serve as a positive role model, and advocate. As an Educational Advocate, you will be trained to work with the schools to advocate for the educational needs of one to five children, to ensure that each child receives every service needed to succeed in school, pass the exit exam and graduate from high school.

Be the difference.....Volunteer!

History:
Child Advocates of San Bernardino County (CASBC) is part of a national Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, program. The CASA movement was established back in 1977 by a Seattle, Washington judge. CASBC was founded by San Bernardino Mayor Pat Morris in 1984, while he was a judge for San Bernardino Superior Court.

Advocates must be 21 or older and make an 18-month commitment to serving a minimum of 10 to 15 hours a month. Volunteers undergo a minimum 30 hours of initial training, and also complete 12 hours of continuing education annually.
