THINK (Teaching, Helping, Inspiring, Nurturing Kids) Together is a network of after school programs established in response to the growing numbers of students who were academically performing far below grade level and/or at risk of retention, and required additional assistance and encouragement to continue to pursue their education. Volunteer tutors work with students by focusing on English, Reading, Math and computer literacy. By developing these basic skills, students are better prepared as well as more confident to assume their role in the classroom. THINK Together also provides enrichment activities that promote character development and social responsibility. Volunteers can engage in a number of valuable activities with students, such as supporting classroom curriculum by helping students with their homework, tutoring one-on-one to help children improve basic reading and math skills, reading stories to children and listening to them read aloud, assisting with simple computer programs and/or physical fitness activities, and helping children with enrichment (disguised learning) activities, mentoring teens to develop critical life skills. Volunteering just one or two hours a week after school can make a tremendous difference in the life of a child. All volunteers are trained and supported by THINK Together staff, with training workshops available throughout the year (visit www.thinktogether.org for more details).
