House of Prayer Gospel Outreach Ministries, Vision of Hope Project is looking for volunteers to assist with our packaging our Thanksgiving Food Baskets. We need volunteers to assist us with distributing our Thanksgiving Food Baskets on Saturday November 21, 2009 from 7:30 am - 3:00 pm. The following are volunteer tasks: Client Assistant – Has extensive interaction with the client and family. Leads the client through the food distribution process site. Makes sure that first time clients are given an application and all clients are given a number in the order of their arrival. Guides the client to the appropriate waiting area before service. Inventory Control Assistant (Clothing Closet) – Ensures that adequate supply of clothing is maintained on the tables for assigned group(s) of clothing (e.g., men, women, children). Takes care not to overload the table with excessive weight. Interacts with the client, advising them of the number of clothing items that they may select (depending on family size). Helps ensure that the Vision of Hope clothing allocation guidelines are followed. Ensures that all clients sign service log. Retrieves bags from storage when product becomes low. Some lifting of bags and bins may be required. Client Intake Worker – Provides initial contact with the client on the food distribution day. Ensures that client is included on the list of approved recipients of food. Verifies identification (VOH ID number, name, address, and telephone number) of the client. Verifies number of family members (number of adults and children) and clearly marks this number on the client’s intake form. Gives them their ticket & ID card (Once it is created) for next distribution. Answers client questions about the food distribution process. Directs the client to the food distribution controller for issues. May call missing clients to verify status of food needs/delivery requirements. Locates proper interpreter for families who do not speak English. Food Distribution Controller – Greets client after they complete the intake process. Verifies the number of family members & compare with ID card or ticket color. Distributes bags to clients and assigns a Client Assistant to work with the family if they need assistance with grocery. Keeps line moving on the floor so there is no back-up Parking Lot Attendant – Ensures the smooth flow of traffic through parking lot at the food distribution site. Works with clients & volunteers to ensure parking in correct areas. Helps ensure safety of pedestrian traffic. Directs client with car to the food pick up site. Grocery Loader – Interacts with and provides assistance to the client by placing food bags in the client’s automobile or truck. Removes food bags from the distribution table. Places these bags in the indicated spot in the client’s vehicle. Assists with traffic control. Interpreter – Assists non-English speaking clients in the intake process & the food distribution process. May act as the Client Assistant in the food selection process. Provides directions to the client in their native language and assists in explaining the food distribution process. Greatest need is for Spanish interpreters although interpreters with skill in Farsi, Korean, Vietnamese, etc., are also needed. Volunteer Director – Greets volunteers & provides orientation to the food distribution site. Assigns volunteers to available jobs on the food distribution day. Changes volunteer assignment as needed. Makes stocking decisions when a food type runs low. Assists on-site manager with over-all supervision and problem solving. Site Maintenance & Clean-up Supervisor – Responsible for general clean-up & recycling efforts. Moves empty boxes to designated spot & oversees flattening & stacking of empty boxes. Oversees the cleanup activities at the end of the day, including placement of food in boxes and movement to storage area, collapse and movement of tables, as well as general sweeping and clean-up of the site. Home Delivery Assistant – Delivers food to home of clients who are infirmed or without transportation. Verifies name & address of the client & ensures food has been selected for the correct family size. Places grocery bags in the volunteer’s vehicle and makes the delivery to the client. (Valid driver’s license, registration, and insurance required)
