Evercare Hospice And Palliative Care
Evercare Hospice and Palliative Care provides end-of-life care for individuals with a terminal illness. Volunteers are the heart of hospice—reaching out to provide comfort, care and hope to patients and their families. What you give comes back to you in personal fulfillment and joy
Description:
Evercare Hospice is concerned with the quality of life as we provide care to patients in Baltimore, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties.
Volunteers work directly with patients and families, providing companionship and emotional support. This could be sharing hobbies, running errands, being a sympathetic listener, writing a letter, preparing a meal, or providing caregiver support. Our hospice also has specialty programs in Massage and Reiki Therapy, Pet Visitation and Music Visitations. Other volunteers contribute important organizational support and participate in program activities and help with events and celebrations. Another specialized area of volunteering is bereavement, where volunteers help families navigate the grief process during the first year of loss.
Training is provided for all volunteers.
History:
Today, Evercare has 100,000 enrollees located in homes, community settings and nursing homes across the country. Serving this special-care population are Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Chaplains and Volunteers, working together for the common goal of positive outcomes.
Our international recognition all started with...two ambitious Nurse Practitioners and one great idea.
In 1977, Jeannine Bayard and RuthAnn Jacobson left the University of Minnesota as Nurse Practitioners specializing in geriatrics and armed with masters’ degrees in public health. Their idea? To do right by their training and create collaborative relationships with their patients and colleagues.Their philosophy and shared passion laid the foundation for the nation’s largest single care coordination program for aging, vulnerable and chronically ill individuals. The program was based on treating the whole person and practiced several core care principles that Evercare supports today. The Evercare teamwork approach and continuity of care has been shown to help prevent some problems before they become serious, reducing hospitalizations by 45% and trips to the doctor and emergency rooms by 50%.
Hospice. To you it’s not just a job, or even a career. It’s a calling. It’s something deep inside that compels you to help others. You feel it...in your heart.
We invite you to share your unique passion and commitment with Evercare Hospice.
Not only will we encourage it; we’ll cherish it.
“Until you’ve worked in hospice you’ll never truly understand it—never understand the rewards and the beauty. But, if you have the heart and the strength to do this you can understand—you will understand. Do this, and it will change your life forever.”
