Friends Of Our Playground
The mission of Friends of Our Playground is to:
- support affordable recreational activities for the children and adults of the community;
- to foster a healthy environment for those who use the playground, and
- to facilitate public access to the playground
Description:
Friends of Our Playground was established to oversee the maintenance and operation of the community-built playground on the grounds of Stadium Place in north Baltimore. The main purpose of the organization is to work with the YMCA to make sure that the playground is clean and safe and open to the public. We do that through on-going observation and a once-a-year workday where we replace the playground chips, do landscaping, touch up the painting, and repair any broken equipment. We work with the YMCA to hire playground workers. They are on-site during the spring, summer and fall. We also run a community service program for middle-school students who volunteer on the playground in exchange for a scholarship to the YMCA.
History:
Friends of Our Playground was established in 2005. It is the successor organization to Community-Built Playground, Inc. which is the organization that built the playground. Members of the board of Friends of Our Playground come primarily from the neighborhoods surrounding the playground.
