Score

The mission of Score (Service Corp of Retired Executives)is to provide professional guidance and information accessible to all, in order to maximize the success of America’s existing and emerging small businesses.

Description:
Score offers three primary services to the small business community:

  1. Confidential Counseling and Mentoring
These services are offered free either in our offices in Baltimore, Columbia and Bel Air. Confidential counseling is generally a one-to one experience. Telephone counseling is provided for those issues requiring brief, specific issues. Mentoring involves an ongoing relationship. Whether one-on-one in person, or on the phone, Score volunteers provide sound, experienced, confidential business counseling.
  1. Training Workshops and Seminars
These services are offered through our Score chapter for a nominal fee, if any. Topics range from best practices on how to start a business to specific primers on marketing, e-business, sales, human resources, business planning, financial management and securing government contracts.
  1. E-mail Counseling
Started in 1996, email counseling has become an increasingly large portion of Score’s business. Email
counseling provides invaluable, time sensitive business counseling and mentoring services in an online format for the busy entrepreneur seeking immediate guidance.

The training program for new volunteers includes the benefit of a personal mentor, on-site visitation with telephone counseling and face to face counseling. Guidance and written materials are provided by the mentor to enable the new volunteer to learn all proper procedures. As a result of this training program, working and retired executives, small business owners, educators, and other professionals can readily learn to counsel new business owners. In addition to counselors, Score seeks volunteers with strong organizational skills to work with counselors and clients in outreach programs, marketing, setting up and running workshops and general office support.
