Adopt-A-Trail
![]() Would you like to take care of a trail in the park and have it for your very own? This program works very similar to the adopt-a-highway program. Volunteers adopt-a-trail in the park for 12 months. During that year, they are required to inspect it at least once per quarter, but more often if they desire. At your convenience choose the days and times you would like to visit the trail. Trail inspections may include the following: observing the condition of trail signs, bulletin boards, trail surfaces, waterbars and drainage ditches, bridges, boardwalks, culverts and stairs, monitoring trail conditions and performing routine maintenance, picking up litter, and notifying the trail supervisor of any problems or additional maintenance needs. Routine maintenance involves keeping the trail surface free of loose rocks, limbs and other debris, pruning small limbs from the trail corridor, cleaning waterbars and drainage ditches, and clearing debris from benches, bridges, boardwalks, culverts and stairs. The trail supervisor will provide volunteers with information and instruction on maintaining specific trails to meet area management guidelines. Volunteers are asked to provide their own maintenance tools, but with prior notice we may have loaner tools available. Signs are placed on the trails with the names of the volunteers who have adopted them. This can be done by an individual, a family or a group. The adoption may be extended for another 12 months by mutual agreement between the park and the volunteer(s). A volunteers who adopt a trail must attend a one hour training session before performing their first trail inspection. This opportunity is sponsored by: Patapsco Valley State Park
