Artsbridge
Artsbridge provides a safe environment which cultivates creativity, voice, respectful listening and dialogue in order to empower today's Palestinian and Israeli youth to become leaders in the quest for peace in and between their own communities.
Description:
Artsbridge, Inc., is a program to cultivate relationships between Palestinian and Israeli youth through training in the arts and dialogue and healing responses to trauma. Youth participate in a three-week intensive summer training program in the Boston area, and continue through the year in their home region, volunteering in programs to mentor younger children to learn skills of dialogue and artistic expression.
History:
Director and Founder Deborah Nathan, an art therapist, artist, and nonprofit manager, began work on realizing her vision in mid-2007. She rapidly assembled a U.S. Board, achieved 501(c)(3) status, built a web of relationships with partner NGOs in Israel and the West Bank, and directed our first intensive summer training in 2008 at Endicott College in Beverly, Mass. She has made one visit to the region for reunion of Artsbridge youth, and plans her next visit in April. She is in constant contact with Artsbridge youth and their adult facilitators in the region via email, Facebook, and Skype.
