The Mass Mentoring Partnership
Our Mission Mass Mentoring Partnership is dedicated to growing quality mentoring to meet the needs of youth across Massachusetts. MMP is a catalyst for the youth mentoring field:
- helping to create, expand and sustain high-quality programs;
- promoting quality standards and helping programs pursue excellence;
- launching major mentor recruitment campaigns; and
- attracting public and private resources to the field
Vision and the Future MMP is working toward the day when each community has access to an active and vibrant high-quality mentoring infrastructure to meet the needs of its youth. In developing a five-year strategic plan, MMP has set into place a course of action that will focus on growing quality youth mentoring opportunities statewide.
Description:
About Us Based in Boston, Mass Mentoring Partnership is the only statewide organization solely dedicated to strategically expanding quality youth mentoring in Massachusetts. As the umbrella organization for more than 165 mentoring programs across the state, we provide them with training, technical assistance, networking, advocacy, recruitment support and resources. Our work with mentoring programs results in the formation of hundreds of constructive and supportive mentoring relationships each year. Additionally, our statewide mentor recruitment campaigns and partnership development efforts help to identify hundreds of potential mentors for programs each year. Our program network includes schools, religious organizations, community non-profits, and workplaces, serving youth 5 to 18 years old. These institutions utilize a variety of program structures including one-to-one mentoring, group mentoring and e-mentoring. Research shows that more than 60 percent of Massachusetts mentoring programs have received technical assistance and training from MMP.
History:
History & Accomplishments Mass Mentoring Partnership was founded in 1992 as Greater Boston One to One, the first local extension of a national entity. The national One-to-One was started by two Wall Street Executives, Ray Chambers and Geoff Boisi, with a vision to bring mentoring to scale. Co-founded in Boston by the then-president of Boston College, J. Donald Monan, S.J., and the CEO of New England Telephone, Paul O’Brien, MMP has had a rich history of catalytic involvement in the start-up and sustainability of high-quality mentoring programs. We now maintain the only statewide directory of 165+ quality youth mentoring programs, which guides referrals for potential mentors and provides leads for parents.
