The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is a specialty hospital dedicated to excellence of care for disorders that affect the eye, ear, nose, throat, head and neck region. The Infirmary provides primary care as well as serving as a referral center for outpatient and inpatient medical and surgical treatment. In conjunction with the Harvard Medical School, the Infirmary is committed to the education of future health care professionals, as well as education of the public concerning prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. In order to provide the highest quality of contemporary care and even better care in the future, the Infimary conducts basic and clinical research in its areas of specialty. The Infirmary recognizes its obligation to serve as a source of excellence in teaching, patient care and research for its geographic region as well as the national and international communities.

History:
The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is internationally recognized for leading programs in treatment, teaching and research. Established in 1824, the Infirmary today is the major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School in the fields of opthalmology - the treatment of eye disease and otolaryngology - the treatment of diseases of the ear, nose, throat, head and neck. The concept of compassionate care that guided the Infirmary's founders is still honored today, and commitment to the well-being of our patients remains our primary mission.
