We use the internet to provide and promote support groups for people who have brain tumors and other neurological abnormalities. We also provide training so people can learn how to use online resources. Our resources are beneficial not only to patients and families, but to health-care professionals and researchers as well.
Our 501(c)3 nonprofit mission is to provide, promote, and improve communication opportunities and tools for people who are personally affected by, or who professionally treat or study, localized neurological disorders and subsequent or related health-care concerns.
History:
The organization was founded in 1997 by Samantha Jane Scolamiero based on her experience of founding the BRAINTMR mailing list at MIT in 1993. While the BRAINTMR list has become well known among patients and neurosurgical professionals and has been mentioned in Newsweek and the Wall Street Journal, fame was not enough to sustain operations. Maintenance and Improvements to the BRAINTMR list, including support services, keeping of archives, and web interfaces for the mailing list, could not be achieved without funding. The Healing Exchange BRAIN TRUST is not limited to brain tumors since any neurological disorder can have similar effects.

T.H.E. Brain Trust is a non-profit organization that help people communicate about brain tumors and related conditions via the Internet to promote a healing exchange of information and
support. I have been working with T.H.E. Brain Trust for over a year now as a volunteer. I work as a Web developer. I help in the development and maintenance of www.braintrust. org web site. My volunteer experience with T.H.E. Brain Trust has truely been one of the highlights of my life. Its great working with all the other volunteers. This job has given me more satisfaction than a normal job might provide. posted on July 30, 2002 |

This was an excellent experience with a great person.

This volunteer experience was very rewarding as I got to see firsthand how people with disabilities face daily challenges.I am really impressed with Samantha, as head of the organization, how she overcame those challenges to start and run the organization. She has a lot of confidence and drive. Most of all, Samantha is very pleasant to work with as well as being very intelligent. posted by TINKCPA on January 23, 2001 |
