Primary Source is a nonprofit resource center for multicultural and global education that offers professional development and curriculum resources to teachers and school communities. The center promotes social studies education that is historically accurate, culturally inclusive and concerned, uncovering the under and misrepresented "voices" in history. We have a Resource Center for teachers with over 5000 books, videos and original source documents available for loan, and we also run summer institutes, workshops and conferences for teachers introducing them to new materials, lively teaching methods and training in cultural and racial sensitivity.

Description:
Our professional development opportunities include summer institutes, seminars, workshops, and conferences on Inclusive American History, China, the Middle East, and West Africa. All programs are built around participation by scholars and lead teachers. We work in partnership with 27 school districts. In a partnership, Primary Source staff members form ongoing relationships with curriculum coordinators, staff developers, and teachers.

History:
Primary Source was founded by two educators in 1989 to change the way history and social studies are taught. We feel that when history is presented through primary sources and multiple perspectives, students and their teachers become highly motivated and actively engaged in their own learning. Primary Source believes in the importance of using original materials - diaries, memoirs, artifacts, biographies, photographs, maps, etc. - to help bring history to life for young people. Primary Source has grown to a staff of 14, and three years ago we moved into new office space with room enough to house a growing library collection of teaching materials.
