America SCORES New England

America SCORES New England is a recreationally-linked education program that combines creative writing and soccer activities for urban youth. The mission of America SCORES New England is to strengthen urban public school communities through soccer, literacy, and community service. Our program aims to foster each individual child's self-confidence and self-expression through the team sport of soccer and the individual activity of creative writing. By combining the two activities into one program, we help our student-athletes explore, cultivate and celebrate their athletic and academic talents with their peers, teachers, coaches and parents.

History:
SCORES has 360 3rd-5th grade and 300 6th-8th grade student-athletes enrolled in its five-day-a-week after-school program which combines soccer and creative writing. The 12 Boston public elementary and 10 middle schools with whom we work are located in East Boston, Allston/Brighton, Roxbury, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain and Dorchester. New England SCORES was the first replication site of DC SCORES and now is an affiliate of AMERICA SCORES with 12 sites around the country.
