Since 1968, Sociedad Latina has been working in partnership with Latino youth to cultivate the next generation of leaders. With the support of families and the broader community, Sociedad Latina provides a broad array of programs that promote community leadership, civic engagement, meaningful employment, educational attainment, cultural identity and pride, and the continuation of traditions.

Description:
Sociedad Latina fulfills its critical mission by providing programs that 1) build youth skills 2) educate and enrich the lives of youth and their families and 3) foster youth and adult leadership and action. We subscribe to a positive youth development philosophy. The youth who attend our programs are stewards of our organization; their leadership and insight inform all of our programs and events. Our programs target four areas:

Workforce Development & Career Exploration: Our skill building programs focus on building youth skills to increase employment readiness as well as providing youth with opportunities for career exploration in the health care and technology industries.

Education: Our educational enrichment programs focus on engaging youth in educational attainment and providing access to higher education.

Arts & Culture: Our cultural programs, a cornerstone of all our work, provide opportunities for youth to explore culture(s) through literature, dance, music, film, discussion, theater and arts.

Community Organizing & Civic Engagement: Our leadership programming places emphasis on building community leadership so that youth and adults have the capacity to identify, take action, and solve problems in their own community.

History:
Sociedad Latina was founded in 1968 to create a welcoming space for Latinos to gather and find fellowship. Originally focused on providing social and recreational activities for young people, Sociedad Latina has grown into an organization providing a comprehensive, community-responsive array of programs designed to empower Latino youth and their families.
