Santa Claus Anonymous (SCA) mission is to have a positive impact on the development of youth in the greater Boston area by supporting programs for educational, social and character development. The majority of the programs that SCA supports are non-federally funded and also do not receive United Way funding. In many cases, the funding that SCA provides these organizations enables them to provide programs that otherwise would not be possible.

Description:
SCA supports its beneficiaries in two ways. First, it operates as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) fundraising organization. Each December we host the SnowBall, Boston's largest all volunteer run black-tie benefit. Generous corporate sponsorship has enabled net revenues from these events to be an above-average 80 percent. Second, through the Youth Involvement Committee, ambassadors have the opportunity to plan and attend joint activities with beneficiary leaders and youths. In the past, this group has held a Sports Day, visited the Museum of Science and The Children's Museum, and gone skiing in Vermont and New Hampshire. During 2003, additional funds and time are being devoted to these events.

History:
In December of 1987 a ballroom in downtown Boston stood vacant due to a cancelled corporate party. A group of fifteen friends decided to make use of the space by holding a benefit to raise funds to aid inner-city children. With 270 people in attendance, the event raised $3, 968 and became the first annual SnowBall. The success of the event sparked the group to establish a formal non-profit organization. And in 1988, Santa Claus Anonymous (SCA) was founded.

Each year since its inception, both the organization and the event have experienced tremendous growth. Through the years the SnowBall has raised over a million dollars ($100,000 in 1997 alone) and in 1998 and 1999, over 2,000 people attended.
