Founded in 1999, the Integrative Medicine Alliance (IMA) is an independent, non-profit network of people, organizations, associations and institutions advocating for and practicing relationship-centered, prevention-based healthcare that embraces diverse healing traditions and invites people to actively participate in their self-care.
Description:
Our open and diverse network is rooted in the common ground of understanding the power of the human connection between patient and caregiver. We believe that using all appropriate tools is essential in integrated healthcare, but the manner in which the tools are applied is equally essential. Our unique focus is on improving the quality of the human experience for both providers and receivers of healthcare: Our free, monthly eNewsletter spreads the word to over 800 subscribers about events, promising research, innovative solutions in integrative care, education, and policy initiatives. Our Mobile Clinic for Caregivers offers complementary and alternative medical treatments to healthcare practitioners and students in Boston area medical centers and schools as a way of building bridges with other healing traditions. Our web site at www.integrativemedalliance.org is a top-rated source for information about the growing integrative medicine movement in New England, with a community calendar, a comprehensive links page, and many other useful resources for both healthcare practitioners and the general public.
History:
The Integrative Medicine Alliance had its inception in early 1999 at a gathering called to explore the nature and needs of complementary and alternative medicine practitioners in the Longwood Medical Area of Boston, MA. Over 30 interested citizens and healthcare practitioners attended that first meeting, quickly discovering our common desire for an action-oriented group dedicated to furthering a vision of change. Since then, the IMA has distinguished itself as an independent healthcare organization, welcoming all who support a more collaborative, integrated model of healthcare.
