South Shore Day Care Services provides quality early education and youth programs designed to meet each child's individual needs. We are committed to serving a diverse population, with an emphasis on supporting low and moderate income parents and at-risk children.

Description:
In eight school age centers, located in Abington, Quincy, Randolph and Weymouth, children are encouraged to grow in self reliance and self-expression as they enjoy many activities including athletics, arts and crafts, games, drama, cooking, and field trips. We aim to excite children about reading and writing by integrating literacy activities into each center's daily schedule. Staff work with parents to develop an individual homework plan, and homework time is a part of each day's schedule.

In the summer, the program expands to an eight week day camp which offers children a wonderful program with a wide variety of activity choices. Our American Camping Association accredited site at Hale Reservation in Westwood is located in a 1200 acre wooded area with many natural camping resources, including a fresh water pond and several nature trails. Our carefully selected staff of professionals and college students work to create an environment for children where new friendships and experiences build self-esteem.

Our three nationally accredited, preschool centers, located in Quincy, Randolph and Weymouth, offer young children the opportunity to learn and make friends in a supportive educational environment. Each center, open year-round from 7AM to 6PM, is small and specifically designed for preschool children. Teachers plan child-centered activities that are fun and spark exploration, creativitiy, and the mastery of new skills. Teachers assess children's developmental grawth and use this information to develop teaching strategies and curriculum.

Twenty-one licensed, experienced family day care providers care for up to six children in a warm and loving home-based atmosphere. An early childhood specialist, visiting each home several times a month, acts as a resource and support to both parents and providers, helping them to meet each child's individual needs. Homes are located in Braintree, Holbrook, Quincy, Randolph , and Weymouth.

Our four social workers become familiar with all of our children as a result of their regular visits to each center and family day care home. As part of our team approach, they observe children, consult with staff and get information and ideas from parents. They provide staff and parents with effective strategies for helping children with difficult behavior and developmental concerns. They are available to parents for crisis intervention and on a short or long-term basis for child guidance and counseling.

History:
With over thrity-five years of experience providing early education and youth programs, South Shore Day Care Services (SSDCS) is one of the state's most respected agencies. Throughout the year, we care for 1100 children ages two months to fifteen years, in a family day care system, three preschool centers, eight afterschool centers, a middle school program, and a summer camp. Our programs support and challenge children to achieve optimal developmental growth by building strong postive relationships, while supporting the development of curiosity, confidence, the capacity to set and complete a goal and the ability to effectively communicate with others.
