Social Capital Inc. (SCI) is working toward the day when all citizens play an active role in shaping the destiny of our communities and our democracy. SCI's mission is to strengthen communities by connecting diverse individuals and organizations through civic engagement initiatives. We envision a nation where individuals are strongly connected to their neighbors and play an active role in shaping the destiny of their communities. This increase in ‘social capital’ will result in communities that are safer, healthier and more vital.

Description:
SCI has developed a community-based model for increasing social capital. We currently operate in Woburn and Dorchester, and are in the process of expanding to other Boston area communities. Our program areas include: 1) Promoting Youth Civic Engagement; 2) Uniting Diverse Individuals and Groups; 3) Developing Community Leaders; and 4) Connecting Citizens to Information.

History:
SCI was founded in 2002 in Woburn and added a new SCI site in Dorchester MA in 2004. We are currently in the process of looking for a potential SCI site in Eastern MA.
