The AMIGOS Mentoring Program is a school-based mentoring program for students in grades 4–8 at the Gerard A. Guilmette School and Emily G. Wetherbee Schools in Lawrence, MA.

Volunteers are needed to meet for one hour each week at the student’s school during the lunch hour. Volunteers will be provided with significant training and support to form a trusting relationship with students that helps them stay focused on school and achieve their full potential.

With just one hour each week, you can be the difference between success and failure for a student at risk.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Meet once/week with mentee, at their school during the lunch hour, to provide support, friendship and guidance
• Work to develop a meaningful relationship with the mentee
• Motivate and help mentee with school work and activities when appropriate
• Assist mentee with developing personal goals and working to accomplish them
• A willingness to share experiences and opportunities with mentee
• To encourage mentee to learn about themselves
• To fill out reports and other evaluation tools when required
• To be in contact on a monthly basis with Program Match Coordinator

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of 18 years of age
  2. Experience and/or strong desire to mentor youth
  3. Have life experience that can serve to motivate and inspire a youth
  4. Ability to commit for a minimum of 12 months
  5. Ability to meet with mentee for one hour a week during the lunch hour at the school
  6. Agree to participate in all background checks and safety procedures
  7. Agree to participate in 6 hour pre-match training and ongoing support/training
  8. Provide 3 written references
  9. Participate in an individual interview with Program Staff
