Volunteers needed for multilevel adult ESOL class for refugee students. Class meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Volunteers wanted from 5pm-8pm OR to come in for the second half of the class from 6:30-8pm to assist in the computer lab. Volunteer can come once or twice per week.
You will assist as a classroom aide teaching English.
Potential activities will include: (You do not have to participate in all activities listed below unless interested)
working in the computer lab teaching basic computer skills (typing, using the internet, etc)
assisting students with cover letter writing and interview preparation
helping students to work towards getting a learner's permit, setting up a bank account, applying for scholarships for college, etc
assisting teacher with lesson preparation
accompanying class on field trips to local businesses
assisting in the processes of organizing a guest speaker series
Students speak the following languages: Arabic, Burmese, Tibetan, Russian, Somali, Farsi, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Spanish, French and many more. Volunteers are not required to have multiple language capabilities.
