Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Span, Inc.'s Prisoner Re-Entry Initiative (PRI) employs the use of volunteer mentors to help former prisoners achieve career goals, maintain employment and stay out of prison. The PRI Mentoring Program connects clients with committed, community-connected and personally experienced volunteer mentors who empower clients through role modeling, experience sharing, on-going discussion and action planning. Mentors work with clients to achieve reintegration goals, such as establishing initial employment, accessing interim job-training, and searching for long-term career opportunities that will provide a living wage and improved quality of life. Demonstrated to be a vital link to successful re-entry, mentoring support is a central part of any PRI client's successful reintegration into society. Volunteers bring a different perspective and approach to career development that draws upon real life experiences and personal responses.

Mentor responsibilities include:

• Calling client on a weekly basis
• Meeting with client in person on a monthly basis
• Submitting progress reports to mentor coordinator on a monthly basis

Mentor support includes:


• Training sessions
• Monthly mentor support groups
• Mentor coordinator support
