Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Volunteer, who is 50 yrs. or older, needed as a Pastoral Assistant for a Catholic Church in the Metro Boston area. Must agree to work for 1 yr. at the parish, working 2 days/wk.[Sun. and one other day]. Volunteer will become part of a National Catholic Organization. Must also agree to join a spiritual development group to nourish the service work you'd be providing.

Position =Pastoral Assistant

Catholic Church in Roxbury is looking for a bi-lingual pastoral assistant to better assist and support both our English and our Spanish speaking parish community. This position will work under the supervision of the Parish Operations Manager.

• Part-time position, 2 days a week
• Must be able to work on Wednesdays between 8am-10am & 3pm-7pm and on Sundays between 8am-2pm and some evenings.

Position Responsibilities:

-Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish with the parish community, through a variety of methods including; in-person, phone, email, announcements, meeting attendance, and bulletin.

-Able to support parishioners with different needs and connect with both staff and others in our parish as well as with resources in our community to help with the variety of needs.

-Serve as a bridge between the parishioners and staff.

-Assist Food Pantry Mgr. with the organization and administration of the Wednesday food pantry program.

-Assist with both Sunday masses and the development and improvement of our weekly liturgies.

Required Skills & Abilities:

-Bilingual-fluent in both English and Spanish.

-Organized and able to manage multiple tasks and people at one time.

-Effective communicator, who is clear and gentle yet comfortable being seen as a leader.

-Good listener, can hear and take action upon information shared from parishioners.

-Energetic, outgoing, positive, and approachable personality, so parishioners feel comfortable in interactions.

-Experience in working with different cultures, ages, and backgrounds and a strong belief in inclusivity.

-Liturgical experience preferred. Knowledge of Catholic mass and liturgical planning.

-Basic computer, internet, e-mail skills.
