CEW seeks a volunteer or intern to help expand ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) offerings in Revere, MA. Most of our member constituents speak Arabic, Khmer and Spanish. Our curriculum integrates themes of social justice, community organizing and leadership development based on the participatory education principles of Paulo Freire.

General duties and responsibilities
• Provide group instruction to adults enrolled in ESOL classes.
• Develop lesson plans and resources using a participatory, learner-centered approach.
• Assess students regularly, including in-class quizzes and formal assessment tests, evaluations, notes on students’ progress towards goals, and other relevant materials.
• Maintain comprehensive files tracking student needs, interest and progress.
• Incorporate appropriate technology into curriculum and instructional methods.
• Assist with program recruitment and intake activities as necessary
• Participate in teacher training

Desired qualifications
• Previous teaching experience with adults very important, especially low-income women; bachelor’s degree in education or related helpful, such as ESL teaching certificate.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience and ability to work with individuals of diverse cultural, linguistic and socioeconomic communities
• Commitment to social justice
• Bilingual very helpful, but not necessary
