EITC Volunteer Needed in Lawrence UWMB/MV affiliate agency

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on November 7, 2009

LIVE UNITED
Help low-income families with tax preparation

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) has been heralded as one of the most successful federal anti-poverty programs ever developed. Sadly, those who need help most often don’t know about EITC or how to file for it.

The IRS estimates that 15-20% of eligible Massachusetts families do not claim EITC. That is, millions in our region unclaimed.

By volunteering during tax season, you can ensure that low-income working families get the full refund they’ve earned. In today’s economy, that’s money needed to pay for heat and food, create savings or invest in job training or education to build a better future for their children.

Details:

• No experience is necessary, just a willingness to help.
• Training leading to volunteer certification provided.
• Familiarity with computers or basic computer skills necessary.
• Must be able work with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Bilingual Spanish-speaking a plus, but not required.

Time Commitment:

• Short-term weekly time commitment.
• At least once per week. More if desired.
• Daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
• Shifts range from 2 to 6 hours.
• January to mid-April.
