Parent Mentors

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on May 5, 2009

Wellspring Cape Ann Families is now recruiting volunteers for its rewarding and successful Parent Mentor program. Volunteers from this program become friends and mentors for parents who are experiencing stress and isolation.

Parent Mentors meet their parent matches weekly for one year. They are professionally supervised throughout their one-year match. The only special skills required are the ability to listen and to be a caring friend. A former parent mentor wrote the following about her experience: “I have seen the results of what a one year friendship can do. It is remarkable how that little bit of time out of a week can help turn a life around.” Training sessions are offered twice a year. For more information contact Cindy O’Donnell at (978) 281-7856, ext. 2 or codonnell@wellspringhouse.org.

Volunteers must complete a twelve hour training prior to being matched with a parent. They also must commit to attending monthly supervision meetings.
