Science Club for Girls seeks Mentors!

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on August 20, 2009

Science Club for Girls is an after school science mentoring program that works to merge the gender gap in science and technology! Volunteers lead fun, hands-on science activities with small groups of girls for 9 weeks. We provide training, support, supplies, and a flexible curriculum.
We hope that girls who have fun doing experiments together in the the early grades will be more confident studying math and science later on. Your presence in their lives gives these girls an important message about the endless options of what they can be when they grow up.
The clubs are located at The King Open, Fletcher Maynard Cambridgeport and Amigos Schools in Cambridge. All schools are T- and bus accessible. Clubs run from around 2:30pm to 4:30pm.

Our volunteers are mostly female college students or professionals with an interest in mentoring girls in science, technology or math. We do not require a technical/ scientific background just an appreciation of science and technology. Interested male volunteers have the opportunity to serve at the Fletcher Maynard School on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Volunteers must commit to an 9-week block of sessions, and spend about 1.5-2 hours per week with the Clubs. Our spring 2008 sessions begins February 12th. Please email Kareen Wilkinson (kwilkinson@scienceclubforgirls.org) for more information.
