Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on August 3, 2009 |
Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) is the only nationwide provider of recorded textbooks at all academic levels for people who can't effectively read standard print because of a visual impairment, learning disability or other physical disability. Our volunteers' efforts serve tens of thousands of students and professionals both locally and worldwide. RFB&D volunteers record, in computer-based digital audio format, books in a variety of subject areas. We seek general readers, as well as specialist readers in scientific and technical fields, such as math, computer science, physics and biochemistry, as well as law and medicine.
Studio staff members train new volunteers, usually in one or two sessions. Once you are comfortable with the recording process and conventions, you submit a demo to be evaluated by our studio staff. Once it's approved, you become a certified general reader. If you're expert in a specialist area, you can then do a demo in that field.
