| Starting June 2nd, an estimated 2,000 women and will walk approximately 60 miles from Leominster to Boston over three days in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day. They will walk to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Monies raised will fund medical research; support services for breast cancer survivors, patients undergoing treatment, and their families; educational seminars; and early detection services.
Walker registration is closed, but it is not too late to be part of this amazing event. Over 1,000 volunteers are needed to support the Boston Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available from May 30th to June 2nd in Fitchburg, MA and from June 2nd to June 5th in Cambridge, MA. Volunteers are needed to help register participants, direct traffic, and set up for opening ceremonies in Fitchburg and closing ceremonies in Cambridge. Various shifts are available from 4:30am to 9pm.
Set-up for Day Zero (Walker and Crew Registration Day) and Opening ceremonies begins on May 31st. In preparation for the arrival of hundreds of participants for Day Zero, Fitchburg Trade Center is transformed into Day Zero Registration, replete with banners, tables and extensive.
Thursday, June 1st, is Day Zero (Walker and Crew Registration Day). If you only volunteer one day a year - make this the day. The adventure begins for walkers and crew as they arrive at Fitchburg Trade Center for a spectacular welcoming day. Volunteers are organized into small, specialized teams to ensure that the exciting registration process runs smoothly.
Arrive early on June 2nd to be part of the Opening Ceremonies, an inspiring and passionate beginning to a challenging adventure. Help facilitate the logistical challenge of ushering 2,000 walkers out of Fitchburg. Assist the Crew with cleaning up the Fitchburg Trade Center.
Preparation begins on Saturday, June 3rd, for Closing Ceremonies at MIT in Cambridge. Be there on June 4th for Closing Ceremonies and the walkers' emotional homecoming. Set-up and help the walkers prepare for the Victory Walk. Volunteers are also needed on Monday, June 5th, to help disassemble the Closing Ceremonies site at MIT and return equipment to storage.
The Avon Breast Cancer 3-Days are unique outdoor fundraising events, the largest of their kind ever undertaken for the breast cancer cause. Since the inaugural Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day in 1998, more than 12,000 walkers have participated in five 3-Days across the United States and have delivered more than $20 million in net proceeds to the fight against breast cancer. Seven events are scheduled for 2000 including Washington, D.C. (May 5-7), Boston (June 2-4), Chicago (June 16-18), San Francisco
(July 28-30), Atlanta (September 22-24), New York (October 13-15) and Los Angeles (October 27-29).
