The Store at MAB invites you to help celebrate its twentieth anniversary!

Overview

The Massachusetts Association for the Blind was founded in 1903--the first agency of its kind for blind people in the United States. MAB has a long history of significant contributions helping people with visual and other disabilities. More information on MAB may be found on the web at http://www.mablind.org/

The Store carries a wide variety of products for blind and partially sighted individuals including talking clocks and watches, magnifiers, large print games, writing guides and more.

September marks the Store's twentieth anniversary, so MAB is taking the opportunity to share a bit of its history and unique services with the community. The celebration begins with the Wednesday night mini-series, three events on consecutive Wednesday evenings, and culminates with an all-day festivity on Saturday, September 26.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers will be needed during the mini-series to serve food, usher people between rooms, greet visitors, and assist blind visitors. Volunteers should arrive at 6pm for a brief orientation before the events.

Volunteers will also be needed for the all-day celebration on the 26th. Volunteers should plan to arrive at 9am to get a brief orientation and help with setup. During the day, volunteers will help with parking, selling food, ushering, answering questions and similar event responsibilities

Other Opportunities at MAB

Through the Community Volunteer Program, volunteers may be assigned to work one-to-one with blind individuals, and assist them with reading, shopping and clerical tasks. Volunteers are screened and trained before entering this program. Volunteers may also record books and other printed materials onto tapes and trained volunteers may do braille transcriptions of textbooks, catalogs or restaurant menus. More information on volunteering at MAB may be found in the VSI database.
