Volunteer would facilitate a weekly SMART Recovery meeting at a time and location convenient for him/her. Here are a couple of stories from individuals who facilitate meetings: There’s one feeling when you make ice cream but a totally different pleasure seeing a child’s expression when they taste what you made. When I decided to conquer my addiction, I started making ice cream with attending SMART Recovery meetings a part of the recipe. But those meetings were twenty to thirty miles away and in my region that could mean an hour or two commute. So, I decided to start a local meeting. By attending the SMART Facilitator training program, I learned how to organize a meeting and the usage of the SMART Recovery tool set. Some of my concerns (like how to attract people, how to keep a discussion going for 90 minutes) never materialized. After every meeting, I think about the twinkle in everyone’s eyes as they just tasted some homemade recovery! Hugh, Maryland I have often read that providing service to others is one of the highest forms of living. There are a very large number of individuals around the world who need to resolve addictive behavior. SMART Recovery provides tools that will work for many of them. The tools often work quickly. Although I don't get to see many "instant" recoveries, I do get to see many moments when it is obvious someone has made a significant step forward. I also get to see people over time, and the enormous changes they can make in as little as a few weeks or months. I feel privileged to be included by them in the changes they are making. There is little I find more satisfying than knowing that I have contributed to these changes. Tom, San Diego
