The Mission of GBMC is to provide medical care and service of the highest quality to each patient with a Vision to be the leading community medical center in Maryland committed to medical, professional and community education and dedicated to the GREATER values of Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Teamwork, Ethical Behavior and Results.

Description:
GBMC is a non-profit health care organization licensed and accredited by The Joint Commission and located on 103 acres in Towson, MD. The 292 bed medical center serves nearly 22,000 inpatients annually and provides approximately 60,000 emergency room visits. Each year, GBMC delivers more babies in Central Maryland than any other hospital. GBMC performs more total surgical procedures than any community hospital in the state. GBMC was again ranked among the top 50 concer programs in the United States in the 2006 "U.S. News & World Report." Because GBMC has such a large number of programs and services, our volunteers can choose from a wide variety of opportunities, from direct and partial patient involvement to non-patient responsibilities. We believe it's important to match volunteers with work that will make them feel happy and fulfilled. To ensure volunteers have a positive experience, our volunteers are given as much responsibility as they want and as much training as needed. History:
Incorporated in 1960, GBMC consolidated the operations of two speciality hospitals located in Baltimore City -The Hospital for Women of Maryland and Presbyterian Eye, Ear and Throat Charity Hospital. The services were relocated to serve the growing population in suburban Baltimore County. The Greater Baltimore Medical Center opened its door in 1965 as a regional medical center providing general acute and specific specialized services to the northern portion of Baltimore City, most of Baltimore County, and portions of Anne Arundel, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties.

The Hospital for the Women of Maryland opened in 1882 in Bolton Hill as only the second women's hospital in the country. The Presbyterian Eye, Ear and Throat Charity Hospital had nearly 100 years of excellence in ophthalmology and otolaryngology, originating as a clinic in a Civil War surgeon's East Baltimore carriage house in 1887.
