The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Description:
The Central Maryland Chapter offers its services to residents of Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, and Howard counties. By providing health and safety courses such as CPR and First Aid; teaching disaster preparedness to adults and children; responding to disasters on a daily basis to offer comfort and aid in the form of food, housing, clothing; and being the link between our armed forces and their loved ones, the American Red Cross Central Maryland Chapter plays a vital part in the well being of the community and its inhabitants.

History:
For over a century, the American Red Cross has worked to improve the quality of human life, to enhance self-reliance and concern for others, and to help people prevent, prepare for, and cope with emergencies. Founded in 1905, the Central Maryland Chapter touches thousands of lives each year. In all we do, our mission remains to help prevent and relieve human suffering.

The American Red Cross, Central Maryland Chapter (ARC-CMC) was founded in 1905 as part of the American National Red Cross, the nation's foremost humanitarian organization. The Central Maryland Chapter has a proud history of providing emergency disaster relief, services to members of the Armed Forces , blood services and health and safety programs for all ages.

In 1999, the chapter was one of the first agenceies to meet the Standards of Excellence of the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations. A more detailed history of the American Red Cross can be found by visiting www.redcross.org.
