Peer-Tutoring Committee Member BYU Center For Service and Learning Programs No car opportunities Education Weekly opportunities

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on November 6, 2009

As a Committee Member, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Recruit new tutors and inform students of Tutoring services by attending booths and visiting classes.
  • Assist with Tutoring social events and training activities. Serve together with the Tutoring Program Directors.
  • Be a Coach for a small group of tutors; support, encourage, and lead them so that all tutors may feel connected and continually improve their tutoring skills.

Time commitment: 2-3 hours per week.

How many BYU students would be grateful for a free tutor to help with their classes, but don't know about the Tutoring program? How many people would like to feel the joy of service, but wish for meaningful opportunities that make use of their individual talents and knowledge?

When more tutors participate in the program, more needs can be met. You can help bring tutors and tutees together! Even more, you can help tutors know of their individual worth and feel a sense of belonging as members of this great service!

Any BYU student can volunteer for this opportunity.

Previous tutoring experience preferred, especially as a volunteer tutor within this BYU Tutoring program.

Tutoring certifications are also preferred, but not required. They are great credentials when combined with previous volunteer experience. These certifications are available by taking the block-long classes STDEV 132 (Level 1 national tutoring certification) and STDEV 133 (Level 2 national tutoring certification). The Level 1 Certification may also be obtained by attending a fun tutor training get-together held once or twice each year on a Friday evening and Saturday morning.
