Michigan Audubon connects birds and people for the benefit of both through environmental education, research and conservation efforts through out the state.

Description:
Michigan Audubon has about 2000 members who support the organization's mission and activities. The organizational bi-monthly newsletter, The Jack Pine Warbler, contains articles and information about issues critical to the health of birds, the environment, and people. The society has 42 local chapters throughout the state that provide educational community programs and activities. The society also maintains over 3500 acres of sanctuary property that provides habitat for wildlife, including many threatened and endangered species, and recreational opportunities for the general public. The society also nurtures affiliate relationships with Whitefish Point Bird Observatory, the Michigan Loon Preservation Association, Sarett Nature Center, and Seven Ponds Nature Center. Michigan Audubon currently partners in its research efforts with Kalamazoo Nature Center, National Audubon, and Detroit Audubon to identify and protect Important Bird Areas that serve as critical habitat for resident and migrating birds.

History:
Michigan Audubon is Michigan's oldest conservation organization. Established in 1904, it continues to provide opportunities to individuals, families, and school groups to understand and promote conservation in Michigan. It offers the public opportunities to collect and submit important data through citizen science projects such as the seasonal bird survey, Michigan Breeding Bird Atlas, and Christmas Bird Counts among others. The data provided is important to researchers working to identify the health and distribution of bird populations in the state. Its conservation efforts have set aside thousands of acres of fields, forests, wetlands, and other special habitats for future generations of people and wildlife.

Take 496 to Cryets Road exit. Go north to St. Joseph Hwy. (Ssecond light). Turn right(East). Go to Cherbourg - turn right(into the Verndale Office Park) Turn into the 1st driveway on the right. Suite 403 is in the Southeast building of the quadrangle.
