Michigan Peace Team (MPT) works actively to create a just world grounded in nonviolence and respect for the inter-connectedness of all people and all things.

Description:
MPT provides training in active nonviolence designed for the specific needs of the participants; recruits and mentors individuals seeking experience with violence reduction teams; places violence reduction peace teams in domestic and international conflicts; convenes, supports, and participates with local peace action groups; educates the public to the vision and practice of nonviolence.
MPT strives to assist anyone seeking nonviolent resolutions to conflict and violence in their own lives and in the world. MPT is willing to provide nonviolence trainings to anyone interested in learning more about peace and nonviolent peacemaking. No group or individual is ever restricted from participating in MPT trainings due to financial hardship. Those individuals who seek more knowledge or show interest in participating on domestic or international peace teams receive advanced training. MPT also looks to network with those organizations who work on behalf of the oppressed and marginalized, both domestically and internationally.

History:
Michigan Peace Team was founded in 1993 to explore how peace teams could do the work of violence reduction in areas of conflict. Roles emerged to include education, nonviolence trainings, and gradually, the establishment of a national and international peace team mission. The organization was incorporated on November 3, 1998.
