Agency Details:
CASA For Kids, Eaton County
The mission of the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), together with its state and local members, is to support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children so that they can thrive in safe, permanent homes.
Description:
CASA becomes involved when the children have been taken out of their home due to abuse and neglect. The CASA advocate will be assigned to one case. A CASA's role is to visit the children every 7 to 10 days and become a "Friend" or the constant in the child's life. The assigned CASA to the case becomes the voice for the child in court. The assigned CASA will be required to write a court report and a monthly report. To become a CASA you will need to attend a class that is 30 hours spread out over 10 weeks then you will be sworn in by the Judge to be an officer of the court. You can make a difference in a child's life.
History:
This program began serving Barry County Family Court in 1991, as a joint venture of the court and the Family Independence Agency. In 1997, the program incorporated as a private not-for-profit agency and expanded to serve the Eaton County court. The program is supported through a mix of United Way funding, grants, individual and corporate support; a golf scramble, and Motorcycle ride that is held every summer.
