Our programs address the needs of our community's disadvantaged, focusing on all levels of our continuum of care. We believe in the dignity of every person and strive to achieve self-sufficiency. Description:
Founded in 1896, Volunteers of America is a national, nonprofit, faith based organization providing local human service programs and opportunities for individual and community involvement. At a local level, Volunteers of America Michigan addresses the needs of our community's disadvantaged, ranging from specialized housing for the low-income and elderly to emergency shelters. Our core programs in Lansing include the Community Kitchen which serves 78,000 meals annually, Overnight Emergency Shelters for men, women and children, the Veterans Dormitory Program, the Veterans Housing Program, and the New Hope Day Center, a weekday shelter that provides a variety of services from health care to employment assistance.
History:
Volunteers of America was founded in 1896. Nationally, through 39 local offices, and approximately 100 types of services, we serve more than 1.7 million people annually. At a local level Volunteers of America Michigan has been serving the Lansing community for over 100 years.
