The Ear's New Volunteer Training Program is renown as one of the most effective for teaching empathy, crisis intervention skills, and active listening. Many other agencies across the country have modeled their training after ours. The 60+-hour program, spread over two long weekends, consists of lectures, exercises, small group interactions, and role plays. We ask for a lot of your time for training, but it is necessary to ensure you have the skills to handle any crisis situation. There will be personal rewards as well; volunteers frequently describe our program as the most powerful life-changing experience they've ever experienced!

Once you are on staff, we ask you to commit to one 4-hour shift per week, and one 8-hour overnight shift per month. There are additional volunteer opportunities for Ear Staff, including Training, Sexual Assault Counseling, and assuming various positions of responsibility. As an all-volunteer organization, we are always looking for talented individuals to help keep The Ear growing!
