POPULATION SERVED: Boys and Girls Ages 11 – 16.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitoring program involvement and maintaining phone contact with respondents and families to document needs and progress. Attend Teen Court Hearings and assist with hearing activities. Assist respondents and monitor their progress towards completion of their disposition orders. Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with community resources to achieve overall goals and objectives. Attend Street Law Education Workshops with assigned youth and assist instructor with lesson implementation.

ORIENTATION/TRAINING: Volunteers receive complete orientation/training to meet expectations.

PLACEMENTS: Year-round adult volunteer opportunities, with special consideration for Criminal Justice and Social Work Internship Candidates.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Must have a valid driver’s license, possess skills/ability/experience to work effectively with youth and their families, work independently and as a member of a team, willing to work flexible hours. The average time commitment when assigned a Respondent 1 to 2 hours per week for up to 3 months. (Must complete an application and consent for a criminal background search.

Overall Experience   
Being in the courtroom gave me a better interpertation of how the court system works.

I gained more knowlege about the law and how it actually works. Being able to be on a jury and dibilerate on how to help several teens solve their problems makes me want to come back, and help others get their lives back on track. posted by evcheerbabe on April 14, 2007
