Volunteers Needed for 2010 Census
RSS XML FeedBackground Active Sep 27, 2009 to Jul 31, 2010

April 1, 2010 is U.S. Census Day.  In preparation, volunteers are needed to help spread the news about the upcoming 2010 Census.

Locally, activities include preparing materials for community events, as well as helping out with the set up and tear down of information booths at engagements.  Other activities may include dropping off census literature.

The U.S. Constitution requires a national census once every 10 years to count the population and determine the number of seats each state will have in the U. S. House of Representatives.  The added importance of the census is that the data determine boundaries for state and local legislative and congressional districts.  The census data is also used to determine locations for retail stores, schools, hospitals, new housing developments and other community facilities.  Every year, the federal government allocates more than $400 billion to states and communities based, in part, on census data.  For more information about the 2010 Census, go to www.2010census.gov
